Putting Up The Christmas Tree
Today we put up our Christmas Tree and it was even more fun than I thought it would be …
But first there seemed to be so much stuff to do before we could actually get the tree out … we totally cleaned the room … put away stuff that had been out forever that we weren’t using … and rearranged the room … and the rearranging came out GREAT … D and I are both loving it … Skye’s little roll top desk has its own place (which she was loving) and the stereo is all set up in a new location and just everything came together wonderfully …
D got her blow up snowman out and as soon as he was full of air she ran over and gave him a hug … gave him a candy-cane … kissed him … and gave him a big high five … she was so happy to see him … and that got her excited in everything else …
So D made our first fire of the season … we turned on some Christmas Carols and started with putting the tree together first … we have a tree that has the lights built in and unfortunately only a couple of them were working … D changed fuses … messed around … but nothing was working … even the extra strands we had from our old tree weren’t working … so I headed to CVS to grab some lights … we had already spent so many hours on this “project” I wanted to get to the decorating part of the project … the fun part … and Skye was being sooooooo good about waiting … way better than I was acting …
Since I started having my own tree I have had white lights … it always looks so classic and beautiful … as a kid we always had color lights … while standing there in the holiday aisle I started thinking … wouldn’t Skye just love it oh so much if we had color lights … so I bought some of each …
D and I decided to put the color lights on and she exploded with excitement … she must have listed off the colors 10 times … all the while exclaiming, “Oh wow it is so prettyful” (her term for pretty and beautiful all at once) … and she was right they looked great …
With the lights and garland on she could get to work decorating … she took out all the ornaments and oohhhhed and aaaahhhhed them all … and was so great at putting them up on the tree … she loved every minute of it … she kept laying down and looking up at the tree saying how prettyful it was … after a while she sat down and started putting away the ornaments that we hadn’t put on the tree yet … red ones in a box together … blue ones in a box together and when she finished she said, “All done. It is prettyful mommy.” …
When it was time to put the star on … well she showed how tired she was … she had a freak out … kept telling D, “No daddy, it goes on the table. No daddy, no up there. It goes on the table.” So we were able to snap a quick photo before D took it back off the tree and into Skye’s hands so she could put it back on the table … where it belongs … for now …
It was just such a fun time together … for all of us … and the room looks great in its new arrangement and the tree is just beautiful … especially because it was done by my family … any time we are all together is special … no matter what we are doing … I am just so lucky that it happens so often … I don’t take it for granted at all … I cherish it all …
